My Friend John

It was probably 30 years ago, I was working in West Hills off Topanga Canyon as a young electrician. Up on a hill, the street below me, I saw a white four door pickup truck pull up and a stocky cool dude got out and started looking around at the landscape. Down the side of the truck in large gold letters it read “Vandergeest Lanscape” , on the back window there was a Yamaha sticker and not knowing who he was, I remember thinking who’s this moto dude? About 24 years later I got to meet this dude, John Vandergeest and went riding with him quite a few times, the more we rode the more I learned about him, the more I liked him. He is a tough guy with a racing history, he likes to ride the tough stuff. He even rides a race bike for the extra power for his terrain. John is a family man as I, John and I became even better friends as of these last few years. John and I suffered from the same disease and we talked about it and helped each other with positive thoughts and tricks to getting through it all. My wife, Denise and I saw John and Kelly about a week before he passed as USC. I can’t begin to describe the impact John has on my life. He was a friend, a rider, a tough competitor and a patient. John and I are brothers and we shall meet again on our motorcycles. Thanks John. Don Bizzy
